The Theatre District announces that all ticket sales from Saturday performances
of Carpe Dream will be donated to the American Red Cross 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 11, 2005 - Hollywood, CA – As artists in 99-seat theatre in Los Angeles the nightmarish tragedy in Louisiana and our Gulf Coast haunts our dreams and our waking hours. How do we continue to perform “entertainment” while our country deals with the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina? It is a difficult question to answer, but the best response we’ve come up with is to give back the best way we know how – by combining our performances with fundraising. To that effect The Theatre District will donate all ticket sales for Saturday performances of its current production, Carpe Dream, to the American Red Cross 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund.
“ It has always been my belief that art changes lives,” explained Artistic Director Macario Gaxiola, “this is our opportunity to help affect that change in a tangible way. ” This grass roots effort is sure to be one of many that Los Angeles’ intimate theatres will put forth in the weeks ahead. Though individually our efforts are humble, the ultimate combined creative efforts of this rich theatrical community are sure to make a difference.
In Carpe Dream, a west coast premiere by Chicago playwright Pauline Dessler, when a young dancer becomes agoraphobic, she finds that her fears threaten to destroy not just her career, but all that she loves in life. Will a paralyzing fear consume her future? When fear challenges love, The Goddesses of Dionysus and a little feminine “magic” may be the only answer! Carpe Dream is a funny and poignant
journey through time, dreams, love and fear. PERFORMANCES: Performances continue on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. Sunday matinee performances are at 2:00 p.m. through October 8th, 2005. The Saturday, September 10th performance raised $360.00 and all Saturday performance ticket sales are being contributed to the Red Cross through a secondary corporation who are matching all fundraising donations, thus allowing us to double the funds raised.
TICKETS: $15 for all shows. Group, Senior and Student discounts available.
